Obituary for Sheila Aday Thompson

December 8, 1960 - April 22, 2018

Sheila Aday Thompson, 57, of Grant, passed away Sunday.

Sheila was the baby sister of her family and grew up with them in the Hobbs Island area. She attended New Hope School where she met her high school sweetheart, Jeff, who she later married. Sheila boasted a 28-year career in civil service and the government workplace. After retiring from her civil service career, she went on to found Thompson Gray, Inc., a successful Woman-Owned Small Business that has earned a spot on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies in the U.S. Sheila had most recently started a new business venture that is on the cutting edge of cyber security. Through these business ventures, she was able to enrich the lives of many.

Sheila and Jeff were married for 38 years. The two shared a special love for each other and had a marriage that was an inspiration to their friends and family. They had a love for adventure and traveled worldwide. They enjoyed breaking away from the busyness of life by spending time at their house at the beach. Their immediate and extended family and friends enjoyed many gatherings at their lake home where Sheila’s welcoming nature made them all feel that her home was their home.

Sheila had an immense love for her children and grandchildren, who knew her more affectionately as “Mawmaw”. She cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. She had an infectious laugh and always had a good story to tell. She was a provider and protector for her family. Sheila had an optimistic outlook on life and always saw the bright side of every situation. She saw the good in others and showed no judgment toward anyone. Her warm, caring personality and overwhelming generosity were some of Sheila’s most admirable qualities.

Sheila will be missed beyond what words can describe. Her family is forever changed, but her memory and legacy will live on in her husband, children, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by mother, Evelyn M. Aday, father, James Price Aday, brother, Jimmy Aday.

Surviving are husband of 38 years, Jeff Thompson, daughter, Emily Edmonson (husband Cory), and their children, Abbie Richey, Averie Edmonson, Bella Edmonson, Emma Edmonson, and Ellie Edmonson, daughter, Erica Kennedy (husband Joe), and their child, Parker Smith, sister, Martha Harris (husband Dick).

Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Friday at 2:00 pm with Bro. Patrick Hammett officiating.

Interment will be in the Hayden Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Grant Aday, Dustin Downey, Todd Mann, Albo Whitaker, John Thompson, Josh Trotman, Mark Fortner, Mitch Smith, Jeremy Hite, Sam Stapler and Jeff Spray.
