Obituary for Mae Willa Martin

June 14, 1924 - December 12, 2018

On December 12, 2018, Mrs. Mae Willa Jones Martin peacefully went home to be with her Savior. She was 94.

Mae Willa was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Alva C. Jones; mother, Zelma Esslinger Jones; husband of 56 years, Richard Martin; brother, A. C. Jones; sister, Helen Guffey; sister, Brenda Morring; brother, Larry Jones; and son-in-law, Franky Williams.

She is survived in death by son, Jerry (Janice) Martin; daughter, Linda Williams; grandsons, Derek Martin and Scott (Wendy) Martin; granddaughters Mindy (Scott) Thomas and Melissa (Mark)Spears; great-grandchildren Anna (Justin) King, Samantha Martin, Jonathan Martin, Kylie Martin, Tristan Thomas, Lucas Spears, and Chase Spears; sisters-in-law Judy Jones and Helen Martin; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

Mae Willa was the last surviving charter member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to God, family and church. She was a loving wife and wonderful mother and grandmother. She spent her life loving children. Not only did she raise her own two children, she loved watching and babysitting her grandchildren and even her Great-Grandchildren. She was very fondly called “GG”. She loved quilting, reading, gardening and watching television soap operas.

Mae Willa dedicated her life to Jesus at the age of 11. Even as age had taken her memory, she was able to tell of the day the Lord had saved her soul. She was a true Christian woman and made sure the world around her knew of God’s love. She will be greatly missed by a loving family and church.

The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to the staff at South Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Their wonderful care and support has been a blessing to the family. We greatly appreciated your love and care for Mae Mae.

Visitation will be Friday, December 14, 2018 form 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Wade Martin and Rev. Donnie Medlen officiating.
