Obituary for Franklin D. Kelly

August 5, 1933 - March 1, 2018

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Kelly, age 84, of New Hope, AL, passed away on March 1, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Frankie J. Kelly of Pasadena, TX; Harold (Annette) Kelly of Grant, AL; and Susan (Jim) Donaldson of Fayetteville, TN; one brother, John (Dorothy) Kelly of New Hope, AL; four grandchildren, Koren (Adam) Olinger of Huntsville, AL; Adam (Ashley) Kelly of Arab, AL; Matthew (Sarah) Donaldson of Nashville, TN; Kelly (Jacob) Robertson of Brentwood, TN and four great grandchildren, Mary Grace and Hallie Faith Olinger and Carter Lone and Carson Davis Kelly and one sister-in-law, Sherry (Byron)Spurlin, of Grant, AL; many nieces and nephews and lifelong church family and friends.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, John W. & Carrie Branum Kelly; his wife of 55 years, Joyce Maples Kelly; two brothers, Fred Kanada Kelly and Harold Leon Kelly; and eight sisters, Bessie Maude Kelly Glover, Vera Pauline Kelly Chandler, Gladys Marie Kelly Holloway, Bonnie Elise Kelly Hayes, Mildred Estelle Kelly Maples, Johnnie Marguerite Kelly Byrom, Eleanor Lorene Kelly Byrom and Roberta Louise Kelly Smith.

Mr. Kelly was a lifelong resident of Madison County, growing up in the Cave Springs community. He was a lifelong member of the Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and as a song leader for over 45 years. Mr. Kelly loved the Alabama Crimson Tide, Chevrolets, glass bottle Cokes, Moon pies, cooking country grub, being a Democrat, gardening, singing and most of all, serving and caring for those he loved.

There will be a visitation from 9-12 and funeral immediately following at noon on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Moon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Kelly, Adam Olinger, Matt Donaldson, Jacob Robertson, Mark Spurlin, Steve Kelly and Honorary Pallbearer, Dr. R. Brian Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Owens Cross Roads Church of Christ marked “In Memory of Frank Kelly-Africa” for digging a water well in Mr. Kelly’s memory.
